The story of the Georgetown House is one of history and undeniable charm. Originally, this two-story building on the edge of canal and 31st St was constructed by the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company to be utilized as a storage room around the 1830’s. Later on, this building became a tavern but shortly thereafter turned into a stable for horses or mules who pulled the cargo up and down the canal. The drivers lived above. The Georgetown House still houses some of this historic charm in its small quaint rooms, rickety wooden floor boards, and small balcony overlooking the canal.


Today, the Georgetown House serves as a boutique inn in the middle of Georgetown. We share a wall with a local italian restaurant and are steps away from the best retail and dining attractions that DC has to offer. However, be aware that due to our prime location, you may experience some noise particularly on weekend nights.

Our rooms are quaint, clean and cozy. Most of our rooms require walking up or down stairs, or stepping down into your bathroom. Each room has its own bathroom and its own individual wall A/C unit with a personal remote to be regulated by the guest.

A few important considerations when considering your stay at the Georgetown House.

We are not a full-service hotel. We do not have an onsite restaurant, room service, or spa on premises. Instead, we offer our guests a shared kitchen on the lower level with a refrigerator for guests to store their personal snacks, drinks, and meals.

We do not have 24/7 reception. Onsite staff is available between 8am-3pm daily. We operate more like an AIRBNB and offer a seamless check-in process via our wifi enabled keyless entry. Once you arrive at the property, guests will need to check-in on our self check-in kiosk and receive a unique keyless entry code which is used throughout your stay and deactivated at check-out time.

We do collect a room “Security Deposit” for all guests upon your arrival. The amount of the deposit will be refunded upon check-out if there are no additional charges placed against the room during your stay. Note: we accept credit cards only for deposit.

We do NOT have daily maid service, we offer maid service for customers staying beyond 3 nights. Towel changes can be requested on an individual basis.
